EB30 MEMBER - jmp63
EB30 Interview: jmp63 November 2008
Hi-dee-Ho Beerkateers!...As Jon would say it.

Most of you know me as one of three people (I've never been accused of that before!), rickflag1, Jonny The Mod, or just plain "Rob". (MAN! Lookit all those Cap's run!)

I'll be your interviewer tonight. We will be interviewing jmp63, Jon Pierce, Editor-in-Chief/Content Supervisor for EB30, and the guy that usually conducts the Member interviews.

Funny, you'd almost think he could interview himself! He's good like that. But for safety concerns, and parental guidance, I'll take over this one time, just for Jon. First off, let me get started with some parting shots!
(KARATE CHOP TO THE FACE!!!)

(Jon blocks the attack, sweeps Rob's legs with his right leg, sending him to the floor...Rob's flat on his back...Jon rests his left knee on Rob's throat)

(The real Rob comes out from behind the curtains, as Jon notices that he has his foot on a dummy's throat.) (Jon lifts his knee (of the dummy), pulls it to its feet, and helps the dummy to a seat on the floor)

rickflag1: I hope you didn't think I'd be taken down that easy Jon.
Rob motions towards Jon "Have a seat Jon, stay a while."

jmp63: "First Question?"

rickflag1: Jon, I heard you have some sort of costume...what was it, a Black Canary costume that you like to prance around in at times?

jmp63: A joke that started on the DCMB...got a little out of hand. The conversation, as I recall, brought up "fish-net" stockings. I recalled how my mother and sister always wished they had legs like mine...I'm as straight as they come...but I've got the legs of a Victoria's Secret Model...hairy...but scary if you're a guy...

Fishnets...legs...Canary or Zatanna are the first to come to mind...I chose Canary...gonna cross-dress?... I needed the wig.

rickflag1: Jon, we know you have a secret admiration for jayna10, can you tell us, how has your infatuation for her, grown over the last...what, few years? Is there marriage in your future, and are we all invited to your wedding? Are you going to name your first kid - "EB30", or just go somewhere where no one has gone before, and name your kid KAL-EL...oh, wait, sorry Nic Cage, you went there already.

jmp63: No secret about it. I love Judy with all my heart. I don't do internet dating...jayna10's far more than that.

It's more like a Henry James or Nora Ephron story...two people that communicate by letter, having never met...but have such an affinity...an understanding of each other...we'd probably be happy having never met face-to-face.

If we ever do...I envision the last scene of "Driving Miss Daisy"...skin pigmentation reversed.

rickflag1: Ok, ok, all kidding aside for a moment, What do you do for a living, I know some know, but maybe most don't, care to fill us in?

jmp63: I'm a construction estimator/material supplier. An architect can come up with whatever fantastic design they like, but somebody's gotta come up with the materials to build it. They'll have lot's of technical specs (to cover their ass)...but the details are left to the General Contractor and me. I do full analysis of the plans/blue-prints, work with the G.C. , and everyone from structural engineers, framers, dry-wallers, painters, plumbers, electricians, to interior finishers...everything. I'm the guy who gets the materials from the architect's vision, into the hands of the people that build it.

rickflag1: Tell us some things about yourself and your family, not us in EB30, your real family.

jmp63: My Dad died a couple years ago. My Mom is retired, lives in Wisconsin . My sister has two kids, both in college now (she's 30 years older than me...yeah, that's the ticket...)

I've never been married. Thought I was close once...but she was killed in a car accident...been avoiding meaningful relationships ever since...Dated, sure, but nothings held for long...

rickflag1: We have a new President in 2009, what are your thoughts on this historic election, and the winning candidate?

jmp63: Damn good question.

My Dad was as conservative as they come. His father was big in the Republican Party in Illinois .

Never met that Grandfather, he died before my parents were married. He lied about his age, and joined the Army to fight in WW I. (I still have his invitation to Eisenhower's Innaguaration, he was in his 60's when my Dad was born.)

My Mom on the other hand, is a staunch Liberal...she was a Special-Ed teacher. Big in Illinois , and the nation, in work for the hearing-impaired.

That being said...I have no political party affiliation. I deal with things on a topical basis.

This election?

To be honest...I wasn't that hot on either McCain or Obama.

But...

I've never been prouder to be an American.

For this country to come together and elect a President, regardless of the color of their skin...

It's evidence of our progress as human beings.

We've just begun...but it's a step in the right direction.

rickflag1: Did you ever expect the growth of a little thing called The EB30?

jmp63: Growth? Sure. To what it's become...I scratch my head every time I look at the post and view counts.

To remind folks...a year ago, around Halloween...I was between apartments...all my stuff in storage...crashing at my sister's house...

Bored...I was on the DCMB, when someone brought up the idea of continuing Alex's thread beyond the "Crisis" boards...

I had the money...registered the site...pasted and copied images...came up with a basic format...just for fun.

The response really surprised me.

I asked for help...that's where rickflag jumped in...

Since then...

Well, you see what we've got.

Thanks Rob...Alex your intoxication was our inspiration.

rickflag1: Where do you see EB30 going?

jmp63: Straight to hell. (...just kidding...)

We'll see in 2009.

More participation from the community...

I'd love to have some get-togethers at conventions...

You're updating/revamping the site...

As we move forward...hopefully our members will continue to spread the word...and give us input to the site and magaine...

"For the Fans...", ...wake up Jokergas.

rickflag1: Where do you think EB30 will have the most impact, the fans of comics, charity beneficiaries, or...?

jmp63: Awareness.

If we can get 10 more people to stand in line at a Hero Initiative booth...drop $5 bucks in the till for a custom drawing from a pro...multiply that by how many cons?

The same with Hero Alliance, CBLDF...whoever...

Spend your money wisely at a con.

Grab a drink of water twice...toss the money you would have spent on a soda at a charity.

Simple as that.

rickflag1: What was your very first comic book (C'mon old man, you can think back that far!)?

jmp63: My introduction to comics was at the barber-shop.

A Legion of Super-Heroes book, where their names were spelled out on their costumes. The only comic they had. I read it once every two weeks between the ages of 3 and 4.

After that, what-ever Dad brought home. I was reading before kindergarten...Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Fantastic Four...

I remember...must have been about six...I had done something bad, required a punishment.

My Dad asked me what I liked the most...I told him "Watching the 'Aquaman' cartoon"...

No Aquaman that week...I've been good ever since.

rickflag1: How has being a part of EB30, enriched your life personally?

jmp63: Most of my life-long friends are spread around the country. We keep up by E-mail.

The personality of an individual shines in the written/typed word.

The EB30 community has become just that...a community.

We've grown to know and care about each other. It's not a troll "hit and run" like so many sites...we interact...follow-up...exchange phone numbers...share our triumphs, tragedies...console and advise each other...

Whether it's just stopping in the bar to say "Hi"...or creating/commenting on our own or another's thread...

Yeah, we all agree to disagree...but we do it as Beerkateers...setting a standard for the rest.

The friendships created on this site will last a long time.

As a group, we've brought so many people together. Some have decided it's not for them...a few in ways we all regret.

All are welcome. Diversity and difference of opinion makes each of us stronger...stand your ground, be true to yourself...we all respect that.

rickflag1: We've seen that you've started a Writers Asylum on the messageboards, and now, you have been alerted that we will feature a regular column in the EB30 Magazine, based on it, but I'd like to ask you, do you have aspirations of being a writer?

jmp63: I always wanted to draw comics...ended up more of a cartoonist.

But, writing the stories was a dream I never attained.

The Writer's Asylum was created for that dream.

Not just for me...but everyone else who got a "C" in creative writing, just because Mrs. So-and-so couldn't follow your "silly" ideas (did I show a little resentment there?)

rickflag1: What comic book, would you love to write, if given the opportunity?

jmp63: "Earth Beer 30: Bar Wars" ...

rickflag1: Who's your favorite EB30 STOOPERHERO?

jmp63: The Flush...that one was mine.

Still wish I had one of those polished brass lightning-bolt flush handles

rickflag1: What's your favorite EB30 Beverage?

jmp63: "A Frank Miller Lite, Jim Zeta-Beam chaser"

rickflag1: You've rubbed elbows with some major comics pro's and actors and wrestlers at the Wizard World Chicago 2008 con, what is your overall opinion of what they thought of EB30, when you mentioned it?

jmp63: Basic summation on getting them involved:

Comic Pros: "Hell Yeah!!! Love it..."

Male Actors/Wrestling Pros: "...do I get paid for this?"

Female Actors/Wrestling Pros: "...can you meet me for a drink around 6:00?...What hotel are you at...?"

rickflag1: Your'e in a pic with Dan Didio, who is currently the Senior Vice President Ñ Executive Editor, DC Universe, for DC Comics, how was your meeting with him?

jmp63: The pic was my second meeting with Dan.

I was walking past the DC booth...and one of the DC promo guys ran over and said..."He's waiting for you..."

I had lots of DC contributions for the shirt...told everyone I wanted Didio to sign it...so Dan was looking for me.

He signed it...but my camera was re-charging back at the HI booth...eff it...got the signature.

A while later, I ran into him again...told him I wanted a picture of us with the shirt...he waited ...AGAIN...I came back with my camera...and we got the photo. Sweet guy. We didn't talk comics...I just told him he would lend credibility to the effort...when he saw the names on the certificate signed before him...all he said was "Wow."

I left his name as the last to sign.

Seemed appropriate. We started on the DC Boards...Didio's closing signature on my effort.

Thanks for your cooperation Jon, I hope it was pretty painless, sorry about your fingernails though, I'm just glad we didn't have to go to water-boarding. Folks, we are hard on our members here at EB30, we are a conspiracy of people, only out there to slander peoples good names, to launch attack campaigns on other websites, to rally the troops...in a sense, to TROLL. And if you believe that, there is a UFO outside, waiting to drive you to work today. And....I'M OUT! Until next time (when Jon is back at another member interview)! "FOR THE FANS - BY THE FANS!" (That one's for you joker!) rickflag1, Jonny The Mod, or just plain "Rob"

(Jon wakes up to realize that this whole thing, was just a dream. No actual dummies were hurt in the staging of this interview. Jon goes back to counting sheep.)
